    Balaswagandhadi Thailam of Kerela Ayurved is a classical Ayurvedic medicinal oil. It mainly contains Til tailam (Sesamum indicum), Bala (Sida cordifolia), Aswagandha (Withania somnifera), Laksha ( Laccifer lacca), and Dadhi mastu. It is indicated for external use only. It can be used in general muscular weakness as it provides muscular strength.
     
    It eliminates muscle stiffness if used lukewarm on the body surface. It is indicated in the convalescence period of infection to provide strength to fight against it. It can also be useful in neuromuscular degenerative diseases. It strengthens the ligament and tendon along with providing stability to the joint.
     
    This medication is available in 200 ml bottle packaging. Reference is taken from Ayurveda classical text “Sahasrayogam.” It is beneficial in muscular dystrophy and muscular degenerative disorders. Kerela Ayurveda Balaswagandhadi thailam is beneficial in bahya abhyang karma in adults as well as newborns.
    It may be sometimes used in panchakarma procedures like anuvasana basti, kati basti, and Griva basti as per the ailment. It can be best used after heating it in hot water as it will penetrate the outer layer (skin) better after agni samyog samskara.
     
    According to Sahasrayogam it destroys all kinds of Vata dosha and eliminates all types of fever from the body. It is best suited for post-illness weakness in the muscles as after an infectious disease all systems get disturbed and need recovery. That’s why called Pushti Karaka in Classical text.

    बलाश्वगन्धालाक्षाणां कषाये पादावशेषिते । 
    तैलप्रस्थं पचेद्धीमान्दधिमस्तुचतुर्गुणे ॥.
    सारिवोशीरजलदकुष्ठागरसुरद्रुमैः ॥
    हरिद्राकुमुदाकोन्ती शताह्वापद्मकेसरैः ।
    कल्कैरेभिः सुसंयुक्तैः कार्षिकैश्च सुपेषितैः ॥

    Classical Preparatory Method
    One prastha of Sneha dravya (Til tail) is heated in a broad base vessel. Then kalka dravya  1 tola of each namely Rasna, Chandana, Manjistha, Durva, Madhuka, Musta, Sariva, Usheer, Kustha, Kumuda, Agaru, Devadaru, Haridra, Renuka, Satahvha and padmakesara are added in tila tailam.
     
    Then one prastha of drava dravya that are Bala, Ashwagandha, and laksha kwath is poured along with 4 prastha of Dadhi mastu. All these ingredients are cooked on low heat flame until samyak sneha paka lakshana are observed.
     
    Usage for Self Abhyang
    • For abhyanga it should be taken in a metal bowl.
    • Then keep the bowl in a container full of hot water to heat the oil.
    • Then sit on a clean surface which should be nonslippery.
    • Apply the warm oil all over the body in the direction opposite to body hair growth.
    • Around the joints massage the oil in a circular direction.
    • After half an hour rinse it off while bathing with hot water.
    • For daily purposes don’t forget to apply it on the feet soles, ear lobes, and head.

    There are no side effects reported as of now of this classically prepared thailam if taken under an Ayurvedic physician’s advice with proper dosage, timing and don’t use it for internal use . Don’t apply it for a long time without an Ayurvedic physician’s advice. It should be avoided by a person suffering from rheumatoid arthritis or Amavata as it may aggravate the pain.
