Dasamula or Dasamulam is a collection of roots of 10 intricately chosen plants which when taken together help alleviate problems ranging from pain, to cough to nerves disorders.

Dasamula is a collection of 2 different types of Mula, first Laghupanchmula and second Brihatpanchmula, Laghupanchmula includes five drugs from the shrub classification of plants and Brihatpanchmula includes five drugs from the tree classification of plants. These two take together form Dasamula.

Now, these ten drugs can be consumed together in many forms, mostly it is sold as a churna for helping all the issues relating to the respiratory tract, there it is advised to take this churna along with honey to not cause any accidental irritation of the respiratory tract by mistakenly inhaling it, while at the same time controlling the amount of Kapha that might be a causative factor of the cough or other respiratory ailments.

This churna boiled in water turns into a kwath which when given as an enema controls the direction of flow of vaata in the body which helps control many physical pains that are happening in the body and also many nerve disorders in the body.

Now comes the Dasamula Rasayanam- Dasamula Rasayanam is made by taking the 10 roots and coarsely grinding them into an uneven powdered form. This uneven coarse powder is poured into water and then boiled till only a quarter amount of water from the original value is left.  This concoction is then strained to remove the solid waste of roots from this concoction.

This strained water which is now obtained from the process is called Dasamula kwath. Now comes the Leham process. Mishri/ sugar is then added to this kwath and then stirred till a thickness of desired quantity is achieved and then it is allowed to cool down. Then after it cooled down we add the fine powder of all the prakshepa dravya to it which makes the rasayan more useful for use.

This is the difference between standard Dasamula and Dasamula Rasayanam. Dasamula rasayan is a further processing of the Dasamula drugs which makes it a lot superior to standard Dasamula churna, or kwath because these two have a shelf life of only 2 months and 1 day specifically but this rasayan is capable of lasting for 1 year without any preservatives.

Other than that, the drugs that are added as prakshepa here make this whole concoction a lot more potent and capable of fighting more issues with a lesser dosage. Also, a rasayan is always going to take care of your general health by increasing your body’s natural immunity. This concoction here can take care of respiratory, nervous, digestive, and more issues when taken as a supportive medicine and can help avoid them if there is a reason to suspect them in the future.
