Dhootapapeshwar Kaseesa Bhasma is an ayurvedic medicine that is mineral-based and contains ferrous sulphate (FeSO4 ) as the key ingredient. This medication is excellent in treating anaemia and menstrual disorders, and it has a wide spectrum of uses. The key constituent of kaseesa bhasma i.e.; kaseesa, which is also called green vitriol comes in two forms: Pushpa Kaseesa and Valuka Kaseesa. Pushpa Kaseesa is crystalline and has a bluish green colour.
It is an acceptable variety and is used for medical purposes, therefore it is employed in the manufacture of bhasma. It is prepared by the process of marana according to the Ayurveda text ' Rasa tarangini'. Firstly with the use of dola yantra, raw pushpa kaseesa is cleaned by boiling for three hours in the juice of bhringraj (Eclipta alba).
After purification, incineration is performed using a variety of procedures, including kanji and nimbu swaras ( Citrus Limon) bhavana and then giving laghuputa, and also by snuhi patra ( Euphorbia neriifolia) swaras bhavana and giving laghuputa till kaseesa loses its soreness. The great properties of bhringraj, nimbu, and snuhi patra make it particularly beneficial in treating skin and hair problems, as well as aiding digestion.
Ushna virya ( hot potency) and Kashaya amla rasa ( astringent and sour) are qualities of Kaseesa Bhasma. It is raktavardhak ( increasing blood flow), kapha vata shamak ( reduces kapha and vata dosha in the body), kramighn ( cures helminthiasis), jwaraghna ( cures fever), keshya ( good for hair), kandughn ( cures itching) etc. and contains antimicrobial and antifungal properties and used in many formulations as ingredient as well as an independent medicine.
